Online Craps

Now it’s time for the Guru to teach you the ins and outs of online craps. The way of the Guru is the way of learning, so let George show the way. I hope you’ve spent some time making your way around this site already, so that you’re comfortable with my style of doing things. I’m going to give you some insight into the relatively new world of online craps. I say relatively because it definitely hasn’t been around as long as the land-based version or its ancestors. By the way, you can read about some of the colorful history of craps on my page about how to play craps, and about where the dice we use today originated on my page about craps dice.

One of the questions that I hear the most is “how can an online craps table be anything like the real thing?” Well, there are several differences, which I’ll get into as I go along. Just a quick note here; if you want to find out what the internet version of craps is like, you can try out the free game that’s available here on this site. All you have to do is click on the link fill in a bit of information, and away you go! You can get a taste of online craps (maybe your first taste) right here, in just a few seconds. The first thing you’ll notice about the computer-based craps game is obviously the size of the “table”, and the fact that you can’t see the whole thing. Obviously, you’d never get a whole craps table on a computer screen unless it was the size of a postage stamp! And secondly, you don’t really need to see the whole table anyway; just the part your dice will be rolling on, and where you want to place your bets. So it’ll give you a good feel for how the game works.

The next thing you’ll notice, especially if you’ve ever been to a casino, or even heard anyone telling of their experiences in Vegas; is the fact the online craps is quite a bit quieter, and there’s no “party atmosphere”, that’s normally associated with live casino craps. To some people, this can be a definite plus. Especially if you’re a beginner since all the ruckus at a land-based craps table can be pretty darned distracting when you’re just starting out. With online craps, you can sit back in a comfortable chair, put on some nice music, and take your time deciding on your bets; none of which you are able to do at a casino since there’s usually standing room only at the craps tables, and the action moves pretty fast and furious.

There are a few things that online craps games have developed recently that can make the internet experience much closer to the real thing that it used to be just a few years ago. One thing that definitely helps in this regard is the sound effects. Lots of online craps games have added at least the sound of the dice rolling and the chips moving around on the table, and some even have crowd noises, and the voice of the dealer shouting out the value of the roll. All this helps make the experience much more realistic, and gives you the feeling that you’re really there, standing shoulder to shoulder with other excited players and friends shouting encouragement as you play.

Once you’ve begun to play a bit of online craps for money, you’ll find that the experience you gained from the free version will serve you well. You’ll definitely notice the new thrill of the adrenaline rush that comes from getting on a hot streak, and betting on other hot rollers too. And when that winnings check comes in the mail, you’ll have all the satisfaction of winning that you’d get at a casino (just with a little more of a wait). Well, my work here is done, and you’ve shown great promise as a follower of the Guru. I hope you’ll take the time to add to your knowledge of the game of craps by continuing to make your way around my site, gathering lots helpful tidbits along the way.
